Thank you for visiting the website of the Save
Thornbury Hospital Campaign. The campaign is being run by Thornbury Town
Council in partnership with local MP Steve Webb (pictured below, outside
the hospital) and community groups, including the League of Friends of
Thornbury Hospital and Thornbury Churches Together.
The future of Thornbury Hospital has been called into question
following the publication of plans by the Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health
Partnership Trust (AWP) to shut 10 beds on Grace
Ward which currently provides care and
assessment for older people with mental health problems, as well as
respite care to assist carers who look after patients in their own
home for most of the time.
The loss of a financial contribution from AWP to the running costs of the
site could threaten the remaining Henderson Ward, which provides
intermediate care for local people
referred directly by their GPs or who have been discharged from
larger hospitals such as Frenchay or Southmead and who still need
some nursing care. Henderson Ward also provides
respite care beds and two rooms where hospice
care is provided.
From April 2005, the Thornbury Hospital site will become the
responsibility of the South Gloucestershire
Primary Care Trust (PCT). The PCT has said that the loss of
funding from AWP means it has to re-think its plans for the future
of the Thornbury Hospital site. A variety of
options is being considered by the PCT, and the Save
Thornbury Hospital campaign is encouraging local people to tell the
PCT how they feel. Latest news:
