1) The Bristol Health Services Plan:

The Local NHS is consulting (until 10 December) on plans to improve the health services across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.

Part of its plan is to "develop more outpatient services and diagnostic services at Thornbury Hospital and to ensure this care is provided in a more integrated way with primary care services. We are committed to maintaining intermediate care beds at Thornbury Hospital..."

2) August 2004: Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) announce plans to close Grace Ward at Thornbury Hospital

AWP runs Grace Ward at present, and is facing financial problems which means it needs to reduce the costs of its services. Its final decisions will be made in March/April 2005. Proposals for older people include:

"Transfer the service (and the resource) from Grace Ward, Thornbury Hospital (10 beds) to Blenheim and Berkeley ward on Blackberry Hill...South Gloucestershire community services, for example the community teams and the Severnvale Day Hospital, will be retained in Thornbury."

3) September 2004: Thornbury Town Council write letter of objection to the AWP team

The council "was shocked to receive notice of the proposed changes for mental health services..."
