THE IMPORTANCE OF THORNBURY HOSPITAL
From Mrs Tina Mitchell
"Thornbury Hospital is unique in every
possible way to me.
"The feelings you experience when you walk
through the hospital doors for the first time are those of warmth, love
and care. The mixed emotions of why you are there in the first place
slowly fade away and you are left feeling confident, relieved and
befriended. These are just some of the feelings I had when I went home and
had to leave my beloved husband at Thornbury Hospital to recover from
extensive brain surgery.
"When my husband was diagnosed with a terminal
brain tumour three years ago, he received the most amazing care from the
staff on Henderson ward. Eighteen months later, he was able to return to
the ward and finally died in one of their two available hospice rooms. Not
an experience any 37 year old wife wishes to have in her lifetime but one
made far more bearable by the facilities, the care package, the staff and
the location of Thornbury Hospital.
"The close proximity of this wonderful community
based hospital made visiting less stressful for friends and family and
less painful and more normal for our five year old son.
"Why should we have to compromise our hospital,
which provides so much to the young and the elderly alike within our local
community?"
