THE IMPORTANCE OF THORNBURY HOSPITAL
Councillor Clare Fardell
"A well-loved Thornbury resident in good physical
and mental health has recently been admitted to Frenchay Hospital
following a fall. Her elderly friends managed to visit her in Frenchay the
very next day, but it was not easy for them to get there.
"Once her injuries are healing she will need quite a period of
rehabilitation in hospital before she can return home where she is well
able to live independently. Frequent visits from friends in Thornbury will
be an invaluable part of her recovery.
"It was with great dismay, therefore, that her daughter was told by
Frenchay Hospital that she is likely to be sent for rehabilitation
treatment in Blackberry Hill Hospital, many miles from Thornbury and hard
to reach.
"This suggestion confirms local fears that "the powers that be" already
seriously undervalue Thornbury Hospital and are in great danger of
throwing away an extremely valuable health asset."
